(Chico) Four Corners: Technique, Formations and Duet Passing
A complete journey through the (Chico) Four Corners and variations
Join Liz for a complete journey through the (Chico) Four Corners, a fun 16-count step with a punchy hip bump toward all four corners of your dance space. Couple that with a dramatic arm change and you've got a wonderful step for lively, punchy music!
This three-part course takes you all the way from the foundational technique through group formations and into an advanced duet variation, so you'll have the Four Corners in your body from every angle. Liz breaks down each layer with the detail and care she's known for, including overhead video views and follow-along drills so you can really see and feel how it all comes together.
Because FCBD® Style is a group improvisational dance, a step like this becomes so much richer when you know how to share it. It's one thing to dance the Four Corners on your own, it's another to circle up with a group of three or four, or to pass it back and forth with a partner. That's exactly what Liz unpacks here, building your confidence one layer at a time.
By the end of this course you'll have a solid, confident grasp of the Four Corners technique and transitions, two fun Circle Up variations for group formations, and the advanced duet passing combination, complete with the feet, angles, hips, and arm technique that make it all flow. Whether you're dancing solo, in a group, or with a partner, you'll be ready to bring this punchy, joyful step to life. Let's get started!
Part One: Detailed Technique, Transitions and Drills
Every great combination starts with a strong foundation. In Part One, Liz takes a detailed look at the (Chico) Four Corners itself, the fun 16-count step with a punchy hip bump toward all four corners and that dramatic arm change. You'll work through the technique, transitions, and drills you need to dance it cleanly and confidently, setting you up beautifully for everything that follows.
Part Two: Circle Up, Two Group Variations
Now let's bring in a group! In Part Two, Liz teaches two Circle Up variations on the Four Corners, a Devyani combination close to her heart. You'll learn the structure, cue, and fun formation options for a forward-facing group of three or four, plus each position's pathway out of the circle up from a diagonal formation. With an overhead video and follow-along drills, you'll feel that joyful celebration when everyone puts their hands into the circle at the end.
Part Three: Duet Passing, an Advanced Variation
Celebrate a duet victory when you master this step! In Part Three, Liz brings everything together with the advanced combination of passing the Four Corners with a partner. She breaks down the feet, angles, hips, and arm technique, plus tips for easily moving around your partner, and an overhead view helps you see the passing concept in action. It's the satisfying payoff to everything you've built across the series.
