Khyria Mazin

From her website: banatmazin.com

The youngest of the daughters of Yousef and Fahima and the last working dancer in the Mazin family refers to herself as a "fananna el-shaabeya" [traditional artist] or her dance as "raqs el-shaabi" or "raqs el-Mazin", terms preferred to "ghawazee" which can still be seen as derogatory in Egypt.

Khyria has been dancing since her mid teens and teaching her family's style of dance since at least the 80's. She was named after her older sister-in law who was also a performer with the group and appeared in a few films/documentaries. Khyria has performed in many kinds of events such as local weddings, sebouah celebrations, mawlid, international dance festivals, hotels, and most recently, online workshops. Most of her students are foreigners but she has occasionally mentored Egyptian dancers from as far as Tanta in hopes of keeping this traditional art alive. She has no children and did not remarry after her husband passed away.

She loves her students around the world and hopes for many more years to keep sharing the work she loves so much.
