Know Your Rhythms - Beledi/Baladi
An introduction to Baladi rhythms
Music theory for dancers, by a dancer!
We understand Middle Eastern percussion rhythms can feel a little overwhelming, especially for dancers that don't really have an interest in learning how to be a drummer or musician.
IN FCBD®Style we ARE musicians because we play finger cymbals (zils) while we dance to fast tempo music.
But why do we call our Beledi/Baladi pattern a baladi if there are other rhythms that sound similar?
What IS the difference in Baladi, Saidi and Maqsoum? How does this impact the way we play zils?
Join Kelley for a "dancer's view" at the Baladi Rhythm. As always, her explanations and visualizations help you learn and retain the information in a fun and creative way!
