There's something magical that happens when your zils lock in with the music — when you stop thinking about your fingers and just play. That's exactly what this four-part series with instructor Virginia is designed to help you do.
Finger cymbals are one of the most distinctive and joyful elements of FCBD® Style. You're not just dancing — you're making music. But getting there takes practice, patience, and a smart approach to building fluency. This series gives you all three.
Across four classes, you'll explore a variety of zill patterns — some tied to FCBD® style and some not — because the broader your cymbal vocabulary, the more freely you can play. Each class follows a progressive structure: you'll learn the pattern, drill it at multiple tempos with a metronome, and then bring it to life with music.
The deeper goal? To help you dissociate your finger cymbal playing from your footwork, so that eventually both become second nature — and you can give your full attention to whichever one needs it in the moment.
This series is perfect for dancers who want to:
- Build real zill fluency beyond the basics
- Feel more musical and expressive in performance
- Develop independence between movement and cymbal playing
- Grow their pattern vocabulary within and beyond FCBD® Style

Virginia is from Burgos, Spain, but she moved to the U.S. in 2001, finally settling down in Indiana. Her dance journey began in Ohio in 2005. While taking belly dance classes, she met a girl wearing a tassel belt and she was in awe of this style. She immediately searched the web and found Fat Chance Belly Dance®. She was hooked. She started taking a 3-hour round trip once a week to take classes and then studied with Dark Side Troupe when she moved to Bloomington, eventually becoming a troupe member and then the troupe's director.
Her passion for FCBD® style and her desire to share it with others lead her to complete her General Skills certification in 2010 and 2015, and Teacher Training in 2012, when she also became a Partner Studio.
Since then, she has continued her education attending workshops each year, since she believes in life-long learning. She is honored to be an Advanced Teacher Training graduate (2016) and certified Continuing Education instructor, and a Datura® Style practitioner.
In addition to belly dance, Virginia is a Spanish professor, a personal trainer and Orangetheory® coach, and a certified yoga instructor.
